In a statement made available to news men in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, the party condemned the directive, describing it  “as a brazen assault on democracy tailored to intimidate the electorate and prevent them from freely voting the candidate of their choice.”
According to the party, “the directive is in furtherance of APC’s two-pronged plot to move in billions of naira to induce voters as well as smuggle in thousands of armed thugs from other APC states to cause mayhem and disrupt the process in the face of defeat.”
The (APC) had, on Monday, directed all its governors, senators, House of Representatives members from all over the federation to converge on Osogbo, the Osun State capital, from today and remain in the state until after Saturday’s governorship election.
The party gave the directive through a statement issued by the party’s national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, saying it was a way of showing its unalloyed support for the state govornor, Rauf Aregbesola.
The party said the directive also covered all state House of Assembly members elected of the platform of the party from all over the country and political appointees in states under the control of the APC, especially special advisers and commissioners.
The party also enjoined its national chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun and all members of the party’s national exco under him as well as all members of the national elders’ caucus toconverge in Osogbo unfailingly.
The APC said it perceived the forthcoming election as a celebration of democracy and a harvest time for the party, whose candidate it said had worked so hard to implement his mandate and make life more abundant for the people of the state.
It called on its members in Osun to be vigilant ahead of the poll, considering the myriad of desperate tactics being perfected by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to reap where it did not sow.
It pointed out that in seeking to import mercenaries from other states, the APC had exposed the fact that it lacked genuine followership in Osun State, adding that such explained the reason it had remained distraught by the massive support being enjoyed by the PDP.
According to it,“having realised that the people are now with the PDP, a desperate APC is doing everything to cause confusion, intimidate the people and prevent them from expressing their wishes and aspirations in a free election”.
“However, we wish to inform the APC that they will be disgraced as no amount of intimidation and inducement will deter the people of Osun State from pushing through their resolve to end the APC reign of impunity on August 9. Indeed, never in history has good been defeated by evil”, the party said.
The statement also described as laughable, APC’s allegation that the PDP sought to reap where it did not sow, saying  “that Osun remains a core PDP state, Nigerians are aware that the APC never won election in Osun State but is merely enjoying a mandate stolen from the PDP through the court.”
The PDP called on the people of Osun state to remain calm and vigilant while charging them to resist any attempt by the enemies of their state to subvert their collective will at the poll.
It also called on Nigerians to note the developments and hold the APC responsible should there be any break down of law and order in Osun state, before, during and after the election.
Meanwhile, APC on Monday raised the alarm, alleging about half a million Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), which were either unclaimed, not handed over to their authentic owners or were obtained fraudulently, have been cloned by unscrupulous persons ahead of the governorship poll holding in Osun State on August 9, 2014.
The party said this in a statement issued by its national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, saying that, “These cloned cards, mostly in the hands of persons from states other than Osun, are to be used along with the authentic PVCs issued to the electorate in Osun state during the August 9 Osun governorship election.”
Oyinlola defects to APC todayBarring any hitch, former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, will today in Osogbo dump his former political platform, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Oyinlola’s defection is coming against the backdrop of a recent meeting he had with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Aso Villa, in Abuja, where he assured the top echelon of his former party that he would remain in the PDP.
Credible sources informed our correspondent that arrangement had been perfected by notable national leaders of the APC, including the newly elected chairman of the party in Nigeria, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, immediate past chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, National Assembly, Tinubu, Aregbesola, among others to receive him into their party at the Osogbo Township Stadium.
Confirming his decampment to the APC during a telephone chat with our correspondent on Monday, Oyinlola simply stated that “you will get the action tomorrow (today). When probed further on the development, he repeated that “you will get the action tomorrow. I can confirm to you that it is true”.
Reacting over the matter, the publicity secretary of the PDP in Osun, Prince Bola Ajao, described Oyinlola’s resolve as the greatest political miscalculation of the decade, saying with his defection, he might have “embarked on an unfortunate and miserable path to political wilderness.”
He, however, assured that his decampment would not in any way affect the much anticipated victory of the PDP and Senator Iyiola Omisore on August 9, 2014.
It will be recalled that  a Federal High Court in Abuja, in January last year, held that Oyinlola was not duly elected as PDP national secretary, in a suit brought before it by the Buruji Kashamu group.
PDP top shot, acting in concert with the anti-Obasanjo group in the South-West, had swiftly seen to the replacement of Oyinlola with Professor Wale Oladipo, who is also from Osun State.
An appellate court in Abuja had reversed the former governor’s sack and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had said Oyinlola remained the authentic scribe of the party.
Not satisfied with the decision of the appellate court, the PDP leadership had approached the Supreme Court for a reversal of the decision of the appellate court.
With the pendency of the decision of the apex court, the crisis in the PDP took a turn for the worse, as some of its aggrieved leaders and governors broke away at its mini convention in August last year, to form the New PDP. Oyinlola was with them. He later announced that he was not a member of new PDP.
The splinter PDP group later fused into the APC and this had fuelled speculations that Oyinlola might join the five PDP governors who had done so.
At a recent meeting with President Jonathan, the former governor was persuaded not to dump the PDP for APC.
Shortly after his encounter with the president, Oyinlola received Senator Bola Tinubu and the national leadership of the APC at his Okuku residence.
Oyinlola, who was the governor of Osun State between 2003 and November, 2010 on the platform of the PDP, is still awaiting the outcome of the Supreme Court, Abuja, suit over the litigation on his removal as the national secretary of the PDP.
Jonathan had, at a meeting with Oyinlola some weeks back in Abuja, assured that the PDP would obey the court order over the controversy generated by his removal from the position of the national scribe of his former party.
The former governor had not attended any of the campaign events of the PDP’s candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore, a development his loyalists said was because his reinstatement had not been honoured.
Speaking at the weekend, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, had recalled how Omisore had urged him to support Oyinlola for the governorship position when the former was persuaded to step down.
However, indication that Oyinlola was ready to quit the umbrella party emerged in a paid advertorial published on Sunday Tribune and in which he detailed his travail in the party and hinted of the need to quit the party.
“It seems to me that I am not wanted by the national leader of the party; and I know that. Therefore, I will certainly not be doing myself justice and good, despite everything, if I don’t think seriously about my political journey and take a firm decision.
“Mr President, I may need to look beyond the party and take my destiny in my hands. I sincerely hope that this will solve the problem,” Oyinlola said on Sunday.
